Progressive scan (25p) capability and full HDV resolution
The HVR-V1E is a compact and lightweight professional HDV camcorder, sharing similar dimensions to the popular DSR-PD170P.
The HVR-V1E is the first Sony professional to incorporate 3 ClearVid CMOS sensors. Coupled with Sonys Enhanced Imaging Processor (EIP) these sensors provide high sensitivity, low noise and a wide dynamic range to help achieve high-quality, smearless images.
In addition to offering 1080/50i acquisition, it also provides 25p shooting - making it ideal for film-makers with smaller budgets and those who wish to create a more cinematic look and feel to their production.
Other professional features include timecode preset function, two XLR microphone inputs, a timecode link to synchronise time codes between multiple cameras and HDV/DVCAM/DV recording and playback for flexible workflow options.

In addition to its compact size, the HVR-Z1E boasts a number of features over consumer-oriented products making it ideal for the professional user.
Through the HDV format Sonys HVR-Z1E allows you to capture High Definition pictures on a standard DV format cassette - providing both a highly cost effective format and full 1080 line resolution.
With the Sony HVR-Z1E, you are able to switch between HDV, DVCAM and DV recording giving you full flexibility to record in either Standard or High Definition depending on your production needs.
As a professional product, Sony recognises that your needs are different to that of a consumer. As a result the HVR-Z1E incorporates more than 40 extra functions over the consumer camcorder HDR-FX1E to help support you and your production needs.
Continuity of Workflow can be very important. Enjoying the benefits of the HVR-Z1E does not mean that you need to change the way you work. Like DVCAM, i.LINK (IEEE1394) provides connectivity to PC based editing systems. In addition, you can choose to shoot in HDV and use the in-built down-converter to output in DVCAM allowing editing and final production to be carried out in Standard Definition in the usual way.
The HVR-Z1E offers the capability to provide a cinema-look to your production images using CineframeTM 25 Mode (25 frame progressive-look effect) and 2-mode Cinematone GammaTM.

XDCAM EX - New Generation HD Recording System
The PMW-EX1 is the first in a new range of professional HD products - called XDCAM EX - which record onto memory-based SxS ExpressCard media. Designed from the ground up to exploit the ultimate high performance of SxS PRO memory cards, the PMW-EX1 combines a state-of-the-art, non-linear XDCAM workflow with simply the best HD quality yet seen in a compact camcorder. It is also the first handheld camcorder to carry the legendary CineAlta 24P brand with multiple frame rate recording capability such as 59.94i, 50i, and native 23.98P, as well being 1080i/720P switchable.
There is also a choice of a 35Mb/s High Quality mode or a 25Mb/s, HDV 1080i compatible mode. To take advantage of this high performance recording capability, the PMW-EX1 uses an all-new imaging system consisting of three ½-inch type CMOS sensors, each with an effective pixel count of 1920x1080 to produce images in full HD resolution. In addition, theres a purpose-built Fujinon Professional HD ½-inch 14x lens and a unique dual focus ring mechanism.
In fact, there are innovations in every detail of the PMW-EX1, from its IT-friendly MP4 file recording to advanced creative features, such as selectable gamma curves and "Slow & Quick Motion" capability.
To maximise recording time, the PMW-EX1 has two memory card slots which means with a pair of 16 GB SxS PRO memory cards, it can record up to 140 minutes of HD footage.
A wide variety of accessories are also available, including a USB Reader/Writer, a wide-conversion lens, battery and charger.
